Tips and Assistance

Tips

  1. Set up a recycling program at work: designate an area where employees can sort recyclables; provide incentives for employee participation; ask for suggestions and ideas from employees.
  2. Share recycling services and recycling bins with other businesses to help lower costs.
  3. Donate usable wastes and recyclables to charitable organizations (including old computers, office machines, furniture, etc.).
  4. Contact SCISWA or the Iowa Waste Exchange for a free waste audit. Find out what makes up your waste stream and how to reduce waste and disposal costs.
  5. Implement office procedures that lessen waste: use both sides of paper before recycling; remove your company name from direct mail lists; reuse packaging and shipping materials; shred non-recyclable paper for use as packing material; reuse envelopes; use non-disposable dinnerware in the break-room and cafeteria; fax directly from your computer if possible rather than printing on paper first.
