Curbside Programs

Recyclable Items
- Paper: Office paper; Computer paper; Newspapers and glossy inserts; Magazines; Catalogs; Phone books; Cereal, cracker and shoe boxes. PLEASE KEEP PAPER CLEAN and DRY. PLACE PAPER AND LIGHT CARDBOARD IN BROWN PAPER or PLASTIC SHOPPING BAG. NO food wrappings or wax or plastic coated paper products.
- Cardboard: Corrugated. PLEASE FLATTEN, STACK and TIE.
- Glass: Bottles and jars, clear, brown and green. PLEASE RINSE, REMOVE LIDS. Throw lids in the trash. NO fluorescent bulbs, light bulbs, white glass, plate glass, ceramics, crystal, cups or dishes.
- Metal Cans: Food and drink cans, foil - tin and aluminum. PLEASE RINSE and REMOVE LABELS. NO aerosol or paint cans, chrome-plated or galvanized metals.
- Plastic: Numbers 1 and 2. Bottles, jug, etc. PLEASE RINSE and REMOVE METAL RINGS AND LIDS. May leave labels on. Throw lids in trash. NO oil, antifreeze or pesticide containers. NO film, plastic grocery bags, bread sacks, etc.
- Yard waste: Leaves, grass clippings, wood ash, sawdust and garden waste. Use approved bags or brush tags.

GRINNELL
Curbside Program
The city of Grinnell has a curbside recycling program. For more information, please call 641-236-2632. Residents outside of Grinnell can also drop off recyclable items at the city garage, 1411 1st Avenue from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, Monday - Friday.
Recyclable Items
- Paper: Newspapers and glossy newspaper inserts; White and colored, non-glossy paper (junk mail, school papers, etc.); Magazines and Catalogs (all sizes with glossy pages in them) and envelopes with windows. - Place in bottom of red tub or in brown paper sacks. HELPFUL TIP: If possible use brown paper bags for these paper items. The brown paper bags are recyclable. Plastic bags are not recycled in our program.
- Cardboard: Corrugated cardboard with dull finish and brown and brown paper grocery bags. Glossy or wax finish boxes (such as cereal and cookie boxes) and egg cartons also accepted. PLEASE FLATTEN.
- Tin & Aluminum: Removing labels is great, but not necessary. PLEASE RINSE OUT. Cans do not have to be flattened. NO paint or aerosol cans
- Glass: Clear, brown and green. RINSE OUT REMOVE caps, lids and rings. May leave labels on. NO plate glass, ceramics, cups, dishes, drinking glasses, light bulbs or fluorescent light tubes
- Plastic: Numbers 1 through 7: Bottles, jugs, and other rigid containers RINSE OUT. REMOVE metal caps and rings and discard. Plastic lids marked with a recycling number 1 - 7 are now accepted. May leave labels on.
NO pesticide containers, any caps (i.e. milk jug caps) or plastic bags. - Motor Oil: Place at curbside in sealed milk or motor oil container. Place on ground next to trash (yellow bag) for collection by solid waste driver. Do not place in Red Bin.

MONTEZUMA
Curbside Program

- Paper: Newspapers; White office paper; Mixed office paper; Computer paper; Phone books; Paperback books; Paper grocery bags; Cereal and cracker boxes. NO glossy newspaper inserts, magazines or envelopes with windows or labels.
- Cardboard: Corrugated. PLEASE FLATTEN and TIE.
- Metal Cans: Food cans, drink cans; foil; pie pans. PLEASE RINSE, REMOVE LABELS and FLATTEN.
- Glass: Clear. PLEASE RINSE. NO dishes.
- Plastic: Bottles, jugs, jars: Numbers 1, 2, 5 and 7. PLEASE RINSE. NO bleach bottles or plastic bags.
POWESHIEK TRANSFER STATION
Drop-off Location
A drop-off site for recyclables is available to Poweshiek County citizens at the Transfer Station located 8 miles east of Grinnell on Hwys 6 and 63. For more information call 641-528-2801.

- Cardboard: Corrugated. PLEASE FLATTEN.
- Metal Cans: Food and drink cans - tin and aluminum. PLEASE RINSE and REMOVE LIDS.
- Glass: Clear. PLEASE RINSE, DISCARD CAPS. NO dishes, ceramics, light bulbs, plate glass, white glass or crystal.
- Plastic: Number 1 through 7. Jars, bottles and other containers. PLEASE RINSE and DISCARD LIDS. NO plastic bags, antifreeze or oil containers.
- Other recyclables at the Transfer Station:

- Oil (must use their containers- available at Transfer Station)

- Tin Cans: Food and drink cans. CANS SHOULD BE CLEAN AND DRY. May leave labels on.
- Aluminum: Aluminum should be clean and dry. Separate from tin.
- Glass: Clear, brown and green. GLASS SHOULD BE CLEAN AND DRY. NO dishes, ceramics, light bulbs, window glass, or white glass.
- Plastic: Numbers 1 and 2. Jars, bottles and other containers. PLEASE REMOVE LIDS. PLASTIC SHOULD BE CLEAN AND DRY. NO Styrofoam, antifreeze or oil containers.
- Scrap Metal: Scrap metal should have as little foreign material such as wood and cement as possible.
- Yard Waste: Victor residents may drop off at site east of sewage treatment plant.
- Appliances: Arrangements can be made with Jeff or Tom.
- NO TIRES, CAR BATTERIES, OR USED OIL ACCEPTED AT THE SITE.
