Mobile Events
2010 Mobile Collection Dates
The Schedule for mobile Household Hazardous Waste Collections for 2010 is:
- Pella – April 3, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, City maintenance garage
- Grinnell – April 10, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, City Public Services Department
- Chariton – May 5, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Lucas County Courthouse east parking lot
- Knoxville – July 10, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, City Street Shop
- Grinnell – October 9, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, City Public Services Department
Each of these events is open free of charge to all residents of Lucas, Marion, Monroe and Poweshiek counties.
Materials accepted at mobile events
Many accepted materials are listed below. Call SCISWA at 641-828-8545 for more information about what is accepted.
- oil based paint or paint with lead
- paint removers and thinners
- stains and varnishes
- contact cement/glue
- wood preservatives
- epoxy
- fertilizers and pesticides
- rat poison
- alkaline and rechargable batteries (e.g., AAA, D, 9V, NiCd, hearing aid)
- gasoline and kerosene
- drain cleaners
- metal polishes
- oven cleaners
- pool chemicals
- lighter fluid
- roofing tar
- floor care products
- antifreeze
- needles in puncture proof containers
- farm chemicals (not from operating farms; by pre-arrangement only; fees may apply if more than 200 pounds)
- fluorescent light bulbs (unbroken tubes or corkscrew-shaped bulbs)
Materials NOT accepted:
- latex paint (dry it out, then place dry container in garbage)
- asbestos
- ammunition
- radioactive materials
- fire extinguishers and gas cylinders
- empty containers
