South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency
Minutes of the Meeting
March 10, 2010

Chairman Roger Schletzbaum (Marion County) called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. with the following members present: Doug Shutts (Poweshiek County), Mike Beary (Monroe County) and Larry Davis (Lucas County).

Also in attendance: Kyle Fisher (MWA’s Mobile Collection Event Coordinator) and Aaron VanderMeiden (Midwest Sanitation). Staff Milo McCombs, Leslie Sedlock, and Sara Bixby.

Moved by Beary, seconded by Davis to amend the agenda as presented. All ayes.

Moved by Shutts, seconded by Beary to approve the February 2010 Minutes. All ayes.

Moved by Shutts, seconded by Beary to approve the financial report as presented. All ayes.

Moved by Beary, seconded by Davis to approve the check register and supplemental check register dated February 2010. All ayes.

The Agency’s current three-year Household Hazardous Waste Regional Collection Center Service Agreement with Metro Waste Authority expires June 30, 2010. The proposed contract runs through June 30, 2013. Kyle Fisher (MWA’s Mobile Collection Event Coordinator) was present to answer questions board members may have.

Moved by Davis, seconded by Shutts to approve the HHW Contract with Metro Waste Authority through June 30, 2013. All ayes.

The Agency’s contract for electronic waste expires at the end of June. A request for proposals was sent out to five processors. Staff will review and evaluate the proposals and provide a recommendation at the April 14th Agency meeting.

The Agency’s contract for handling white goods processing and scrap metal recovery expires at the end of June. A request for proposals is being developed and will be sent to several processors. Staff will review and evaluate the proposals and provide a recommendation at the May 12 Agency meeting.

Bixby reviewed a draft copy of the Agency’s standard operating procedure for handling deposits with board members.

Bixby updated board members on staffing at the Agency. Doug Shutts announced Grinnell will have a clean-up day.

McCombs reported it has been business as usual.

Sedlock reported it has been business as usual.

Bixby submitted her Directors report and reviewed it with board members. A complete report is on file with the minutes.
