Minutes of the Meeting
September 9, 2009
Chairman Roger Schletzbaum (Marion County) called the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency regular meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., with the following members present: Doug Shutts (Poweshiek County), Mike Beary (Monroe County) and Nels Christensen (Lucas County).
Also in attendance: Jim Kingery (Marion County Alternate). Staff Milo McCombs, Leslie Sedlock, Amber Alley and Sara Bixby.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Christensen to add Grinnell Regional Medical Center under information items and approve agenda as presented. All ayes.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Beary to approve the June 2009 Minutes. All ayes.
Moved by Christensen, seconded by Shutts to approve the financial report as presented. All ayes.
Moved by Beary, seconded by Shutts to approve the bills from June, July and the current list of bills. All ayes.
Bixby reviewed customer accounts over 90 days past due with board members.
Bixby reported selected haulers began unloading waste in Cell 4A on September 1st. Agency operators are also using off-road trucks to move waste from the stockpile into the cell. There are currently some issues with the leachate pump that will be resolved soon.
Bixby reported the Agency began accepting credit and debit cards on July 1, 2008 and that customers clearly value the convenience of being able to pay using credit and debit cards and usage is growing.
Grinnell Regional Medical Center is requesting financial assistance for the purchase of recycling containers at the hospital. Bixby will bring the current policy and more information on the request to the October board meeting.
Moved by Christensen, seconded by Shutts to approve the budget amendments as presented. All ayes.
McCombs reported Agency staff is working on removing waste from the stockpile to the new cell. The tracks on the 973 track loader were re-done.
Alley submitted her outreach specialist report and reviewed it with board members. A complete report is on file with the minutes.
Bixby submitted her Directors report and reviewed it with board members. A complete report is on file with the minutes.
