Minutes of the Meeting
June 11, 2008
Vice-Chairman Mike Beary (Monroe County) called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. with the following members present: Doug Shutts (Poweshiek County), Larry Davis (Lucas County) and Dwight Mater (Marion County Alternate).
Also in attendance: Bryan Vander Meiden (Midwest Sanitation). Staff Leslie Sedlock, Milo McCombs, Amber Alley and Sara Bixby.
Moved by Davis, seconded by Shutts to approve the June 2008 agenda. All ayes.
Shutts complimented how well the canvas bags went over at the Grinnell Farmer’s Market.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Davis to approve the Minutes of
May 2008. All ayes.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Davis to approve the financial report. All ayes.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Mater to approve the bills and the illegal dumping reimbursement to Monroe County in the amount of $859.16. All ayes.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Mater to approve the FYE 2009 salary and wage adjustments as presented. All ayes.
Moved by Davis, seconded by Shutts to use the long form contract that extends the Director’s contract for three years (FYE 2009-Fye 2001). All ayes.
Moved by Davis, seconded by Shutts to extend the contract for white goods and scrap metal processing with ESI at both facilities for a year under the same terms and conditions. All ayes.
Moved by Mater, seconded by Shutts to extend the contract to pull roll-offs from the small vehicle area with KAL Services Inc. for a year under the same terms and conditions. All ayes.
Moved by Mater, seconded by Shutts to extend the contract for electronics recycling with MER at both facilities for a year under the same terms and conditions. All ayes.
Moved by Davis, seconded by Shutts to approve the policy on “Purchases of Consumable Goods for Public Purpose.” All ayes.
Moved by Shutts, seconded by Mater to adjust the tipping fee to $25 per ton with appliances and tires charged at their regular piece rates for the tornado waste coming in from Attica. All ayes.
Bixby explained the sanitary disposal project permit with board members.
The Agency has hired two part-time scale operators, Kathy Shinn and Dannile Dykstra. The Agency has also hired Tony Dunsmoor as the new Transfer Station on-site operator.
July 23rd is the next scheduled board meeting with no meeting being held in August.
The Board discussed purchasing a conference table and chairs.
McCombs (landfill foreman) reported that staff has been fighting the rain, but other than that it has been business as usual.
Alley (Outreach Specialist) submitted her outreach specialist report and reviewed it with board members. A complete report is on file with the minutes.
Bixby submitted her Directors report and reviewed it with board members. A complete report is on file with the minutes.
